counting calories is hard to do at first. once you start counting and realizing how many calories are in the tasty things that we consume it gets easier to think before we eat. Esp when you walk/run on the treadmill for 24 min and only burn 168 calories when the candy bar you had as a mid afternoon snack was 280 calories… there are tools online that you can type in the food and it gives you the calories it contains. there are also websites that you can enter everything you eat and it keeps up with it daily..
