AUSTIN, TX – A Texas lawmaker has filed a bill to reduce the school week to four days as a way to help cut education costs.

House Bill 1326 was filed by Representative Ryan Guillen (D), Rio Grande City Guillen.  He says school districts would save on fuel and utility costs.

Critics say saving money should not always come at the expense of education.

Guillen proposes instead of the current five, that Texas ISDs would go to a four day a week schedule with an extra house of instruction added each day.

What do you think?  Would you support a four day a week schedule for public schools in Texas?

What are you showing others?

Yesterday marks a milestone in my walk with Christ.  Sometimes even the best of us take a path that is not where we are suppose to be.  I knew something didn’t feel the same i just thought that it was all the changes going on around me.  But at some point in all the changes i had picked up the battles i was facing and started fighting them on my own.  Thanks to a Friend who spoke words into my soul i am now headed back down the right path..  Instead of letting God fight them battles for me i had started fighting them with my mind, heart and soul.  I am very thankful for that friend that stood up for me when no one else would.  He said words that i know came from God.  They were the very things i needed to hear at the moment i needed to hear them.  If he wouldn’t have been obedient to the holy spirit and spoke them i wouldn’t be being obedient in following his advice for my life and my ministries.  By his showering God’s grace on me and reminding me of God’s Love and plan for me , literally “lifted the world off of my shoulders!”  My prayer is that i am able to repay the favor by showing someone else the same love and helping them.. I also encourage you to do the same!

NACOGDOCHES, TX (News Release) – The Nacogdoches Convention & Visitor’s Bureau is bringing back the second annual Great Gas Giveaway just in time for the 2011 Nacogdoches Azalea Trail! Visitors to Texas’ Oldest Town have an extra incentive to Shop Nac First.

Over the course of the next three months, March through May, visitors can stop by the Visitor Center, located at 200 E. Main Street, and fill out an entry form to be registered in the current month’s prize drawing for $75 in free gas!

“With the rising price of gasoline, we wanted to do something to help offset costs for our visitors,” said Melissa Sanford, executive director of the CVB. “What better way to do that than to host another Great Gas Giveaway! We had such great participation last year and hope to have an even better turnout this year especially since many people will be coming to Nacogdoches to enjoy the azaleas.”

To qualify you must bring in a receipt from any Nacogdoches merchant of at least $25 or an overnight receipt from any of Nacogdoches’ lodging establishments to accompany each entry.

There is no limit to the amount of entries a person can submit, but only one winner will be drawn each month. Drawings will be held on the first day of each month. After each drawing the contest will start over for a new group of participants and entries.

“This is also a great way to entice tourists to stop by our wonderful Visitor Center, stroll around downtown, support our local businesses, and get information on everything Nacogdoches has to offer,” said Sanford.
