AUSTIN, TX – A Texas lawmaker has filed a bill to reduce the school week to four days as a way to help cut education costs.

House Bill 1326 was filed by Representative Ryan Guillen (D), Rio Grande City Guillen.  He says school districts would save on fuel and utility costs.

Critics say saving money should not always come at the expense of education.

Guillen proposes instead of the current five, that Texas ISDs would go to a four day a week schedule with an extra house of instruction added each day.

What do you think?  Would you support a four day a week schedule for public schools in Texas?

  1. I am a teacher and think it would be great. The problem is, in Texas we have to have school a certain number of days. This would have to be changed to hours, for it to work.
