New traffic signal to begin operation in Lufkin
The Texas Department of Transportation is advising motorists to use caution when traveling thru the intersection of Chestnut Street ( FM 58 ) and Whitehouse Drive. On Tuesday, Sept. 20, the existing traffic control will be changed to a fully-operational traffic signal.
The new signal will be placed in full operation sometime during the middle of the morning. The new signal will have steel poles with mast arms, video detection and audible pedestrian push buttons. Drivers will also see new pavement on FM 58 and new markings throughout the intersection. The new signal is expected to improve safety for drivers and pedestrians.
TxDOT urges motorists to use caution when traveling through the intersection. Motorists should expect to see workers doing final inspections and cleanup in the area for the next few weeks. Remember, traffic fines double when workers are present.
