the snares of the devil

2 Timothy 2:24-26

New King James Version (NKJV)

24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

1 Timothy 3:7

New King James Version (NKJV)

Moreover he must have a good testimony among those who are outside, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

The bible clearly warns us of the devil and his his snares… When a person becomes a Christian, he usually undergoes some radical life changes, especially if he has had an immoral background.  Through the first steps of spiritual growth and self-denial, he gets rid of the large, obvious sins.  But sad to say, many believers stop there.  They don’t go on to eliminate the little sins that clutter the landscape of their lives.

1 Peter 5:8

New King James Version (NKJV)

Be sober, be vigilant; because[a] your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

Who better than Peter would know about the prowlings of Satan!  Several times Jesus warned Peter that Satan was after him, but he failed to heed the warning.  Too many Christians have “gone to sleep,” opening the way for Satan to work.

Romans 8:37-39

New King James Version (NKJV)

37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
